Files contain correpondence, reports, minutes and news bulletins regarding the formation of the Commission, appeals and activities of the Young Men's Christian Association and the World Council of Churches, Commission finance, hymn book and reading material requests for German prisoners of war, a correspondence course offered by Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri for theology student prisoners, and the return of prisoners to Europe. Also included is a photocopy of a German hymn and prayer book published by the Commission for distribution to prisoners. Correspondents include S.C. Michelfelder, Commission secretary and later chairman (early 1945); Charles L. Ramme, district pastor of German prisoners in South Carolina; Louis Sanjek, manager of the Commission's book depository; W.L. Scheding, NLC field secretary; K. Walter Schmitt, NLC field secretary, and T.W. Strieter, Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod field secretary and later Commission Director (April 1945).
